Staff Pick of the Month

June 2018 | Matchbook Chardonnay

June’s staff pick was chosen by Merritt Bremer IV, a member of the fifth generation of Bremers to work at the store.

When asked to chose a wine for a staff pick for June, Merritt immediately thought of Chardonnay. And the Matchbook Chardonnay was a no brainer. Perfect for warm spring days that are just starting to turn into summer as well as cool nights by the first fire of the year. Matchbook Chardonnay is filled with tropical aromas and toasty flavors and is just the right choice for our transition from Spring to Summer.

“Luscious with rich tropical fruit characters, the 2016 Estate Bottled Old Head Chardonnay is a showcase wine for the Dunnigan Hills terroir. This straw colored Chardonnay has tropical aromas of mango and melon complemented by hints of toasty oak. Flavors of crème brûlée are mellowed by pineapple, pear and ripe melon. An opulent Chardonnay that is balanced by a lingering fruit driven finish with lovely notes of butter and toasted marshmallow.” -Winemaker

May 2018 | Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc

This month’s staff pick has been chosen by Taylor, a member of the fifth generation of Bremers to work at the store.

Like so many of us, Taylor often chooses a bottle of wine by the label artwork and once he saw the illustration on Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc, he knew he needed to give it a try. (The 92 point rating from Wine Enthusiast certainly didn’t hurt either). On his first sip, he knew he had made a good decision… with flavors of cantaloupe and crushed sweet meadow grass and balanced acidity this Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect pick to enjoy all summer long.

“This wine has lifted aromatics of canned peaches, pineapple and elderflower on the nose. An elegant and contemplative palate follows on with cantaloupe, Cape gooseberry and crushed, sweet meadow grass. The finish is long and distinctively Sauvignon Blanc, with linear acidity balanced by creamy mouthfeel and layers of texture. We hope you enjoy the wine – we loved growing and making it.” -Loveblock Wines

April 2018 | Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel

This month, our staff pick has been chosen by Tim, fourth generation co-owner of Bremer’s Wine and Liquor.

A new addition to the racks in our store, Tim decided to bring Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel to Easter dinner this year and it was a big hit all around! Soft and silky, with concentrated berry flavors and hints of black pepper, smoke, and brick, it’s no wonder everyone thought this wine was delicious. And, while it’s a full-bodied wine, this Zinfandel manages to drink light, making it a perfect choice for our transition into spring.

Did we mention it got a tremendous rating of 93 points and Editor’s Choice by Wine Enthusiast?! You can’t go wrong with this pick!

“Our Mother Clone is a classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel with aromas of red and black berries and a touch of warm baking spices. The concentrated flavors of raspberry and blackberry combine with vanilla, toasty oak, pepper and a dash of nutmeg. The spicy-berry dynamic so typical of Dry Creek Zin combines smooth tannins and bright acidity which are a hallmark of our style. Enjoy now or cellar for three to five years.” -Winemaker

This month’s staff pick has been chosen by Eric, fourth generation co-owner of Bremer’s Wine and Liquor.

While the weather might not seem like it, spring is on its way and this month, Eric decided to pick a wine that is perfect for the transition into (somewhat) warmer weather. Made with 100% Chardonnay grapes, this white is refreshing, but will still stand up to the comfort food the snow has you craving.

“This Beaujolais Blanc is a wine for those in search of immediate pleasure. Fragrant white flowers, full of juicy white fruits, laced with a mineral edge, and balanced by a gossamer acid finish that bewitches and beguiles one’s reason. An untamed dance of seven veils whirls across the palate revealingly and ends with slaked desire.” -Winemaker

January 2018 | Chop Shop Cabernet

january 2018 staff pick

Our first staff pick of 2018 was chosen by Ken, an employee with Bremer’s for over 6 years. Ken used to be all about sweet wines, but has recently taken a liking into all things dry. When he first tried his pick, Chop Shop Cabernet, the first thing that popped into his mind was steak. So while it might be too cold to break out the grill (although not unheard of), pick up a bottle of Chop Shop and a nice steak and get cooking! You won’t be disappointed in the pick or the pairing.

“A blend of Lodi and Clarksburg AVAs, this crowd pleasing style results from fermentation in stainless steel, and aging in a combination of stainless steel and french oak. A touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc add some dark, complex nuances to this otherwise juicy Cabernet Sauvignon, and what’s in the bottle is a red that is friendly and versatile, with underlining masculinity and structure.” -Winemaker
