Staff Pick of the Month

April 2017 | Terra d’Oro Amador Zinfandel

terra d'oro amador zinfandel

This month’s staff pick has been chosen by Garry – longtime Bremer’s employee. He liked his pick, Terra d’Oro Zinfandel, from the first sip.

“This savory Zinfandel displays vibrant aromas of rich, spicy clove and big, generous fruit with hints of vanilla that entice the nose. An abundance of plums and flavors of dense, juicy blackberries excites the senses with a round mouthfeel of well-integrated tannins on the finish. This wine is rich and powerful, and incredibly well-balanced. The Terra d’Oro Amador Zinfandel is enjoyable on its own, and especially complements anything barbecued.” -Terra d’Oro Winery

March Staff Pick | Novellum Chardonnay

novellum chardonnay

Bremer’s March staff pick has been chosen by co-owner, Tim Bremer. He has an extensive background in the wine industry and a great love for wine. When he is not busy at work in the office or helping a customer find the perfect wine, he is probably out on the golf course enjoying the weather. Tim certainly loves a great French wine and when he tried Novellum Chardonnay, he was not disappointed. It is a great wine to enjoy as the weather begins to warm up. If his recommendation alone isn’t enough to convince you… it’s also rated 90 pts by Wine Advocate! So what are you waiting for? Stop by and pick up your bottle today.

Rated 90 Points by Wine Advocate | “A custom cuvee created by importer Eric Solomon, the 2015 IGP Cotes Catalanes Novellum is a smokin’ value that’s made from 100% Chardonnay that spent three months in tank (on Viognier lees) followed by three months in barrel. Tasting like it cost three times the price, it offers lots of orchard fruits, white peach, honeysuckle and a hint of vanilla to go with a medium to full-bodied, crisp, yet still textured and mouth-filling style on the palate. You can’t go wrong at the price and this is a terrific wine to enjoy over the coming year or two.”  -Wine Advocate

Bremer’s Holiday Staff Picks 2016

The Holidays are quickly approaching and we know sometimes it can be hard to pick a wine to go with your Holiday meal that will please everyone. That’s why we took the time and had our staff pick out which wine they would bring to their Holiday dinner. So, whether you’re celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, the New Year, or any other Holiday there is something for you!

Bread and Butter Pinot Noir Picked by Ken
Bread and butter are flavors and aromas that develop through the winemaking process either through the use of oak fermentation and aging or malolactic fermentation (MLF). Both affect flavor, aroma, and texture in the finished wine. As winemakers, these are our “bread & butter” techniques in the cellar – that which we depend on to craft great fruit into great wine. Our goal is to enhance and compliment, through winemaking, what happens in the vineyard. Like the preparation of a great meal, a chef must start with great ingredients, but the mastery in the kitchen will separate a good dish from a great one.

Big Smooth Zinfandel |  Picked by Merritt
Our 2014 vintage is a dynamic blend that truly showcases what California Zinfandels are all about. Lively aromas of blackberry, purple basil, and cocoa draw you in as the fragrance of roasted almonds emerges. The oak aging is highlighted in this robust blend through hints of molasses, dried blueberry and raspberry. With the Merlot adding mid-palate structure and the Petite Sirah contributing to a well-rounded and velvety feel, this wine has not only a memorable start but an impressive nish as well. This wine is the perfect accompaniment to roast quail, beet and feta salad or apricot marinated lamb chops.

Clean Slate RieslingPicked by Tony
The fresh, balanced taste of clean slate is achieved by carefully selecting grapes from vineyards throughout the Mosel. The steep blue slate slopes of the Lower Mosel give the wine its minerality while the Middle Mosel provides a hint of spice to complement the characteristic fresh peach flavors of the Upper Mosel. Ripe peach flavors balance ripe acidity, hints of lime and characteristic mineral notes.

Columbia Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Picked by Josh
Columbia Winery Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of ripe black currant, plum and cedar. This rich full-bodied wine is well-structured with firm tannins and ripe dark fruit flavors of blackberry and black currant layered with notes of toasty oak and cocoa. Try Columbia Winery Cabernet alongside hearty stews, roasts or wild game meats.

Harken Chardonnay | Picked by Rhonda
This rich Chardonnay exhibits a classic profile of tropical fruit and Bosc pear alongside warm oak aromatics. The luscious palate suggests crème bruléeand buttered toast, and finishes with fresh acidity.

Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Sainte ClairePicked by Eric
Jean-Marc Brocard’s Chablis expresses the pure quality of the chablisian soil brilliantly. Jean-Marc Brocard uses all his know-how to reveal the mysteries and share the pleasures of this complex soil. The result is a pure, mineral and concentrated wine, typical of its appellation.

Josh Cellars Legacy Red | Picked by Brittany
Aromatic blue fruits and brown spices delight the nose, most notable the fresh plum and blackberry fruit. The wine is dense and juicy, with bakes plums and dark cherries, layered with roasted almonds and hazelnuts, finishing long with fine, soft tannins.

Swedish Hill Glogg WinePicked by Taylor
This spicy and aromatic red wine is made with an extract imported from Sweden which contains cinnamon, cloves, cardamon and ginger.

Warre’s Warrior PortPicked by Garry
WARRIOR is the oldest brand of Port in the world, having been shipped continuously since the 1750’s. The name Warrior was branded on the casks of Warre’s finest Reserve Ports since the earliest days of the firm. The traditional style has been maintained over the years and it is today a classic full-bodied wine with wonderful richness and balance. Warrior is drawn from Quinta da Cavadinha and Quinta do Retiro Antigo, Warre’s finest quintas in the Pinhão and Rio Torto valleys that produce Warre’s classic Vintage Ports. The firm’s head winemaker, Peter Symington, selects lotes of particularly rich and fruity Reserve Port to set aside for maturing in oak casks in the lodges at Vila Nova de Gaia. When the wines have reached perfect maturity, they are bottled to produce the award-winning Warre’s Warrior, one of the finest Ports available for everyday drinking. Food pairing suggestion: Warre’s Warrior is delicious served at the end of a meal, for example with rich, nutty or chocolate desserts, as well as strong cheeses. Although usually served at room temperature, Reserve Ports are equally delicious when served slightly chilled in hot weather.

Gundlach Bundschu Mountain CuveePicked by Tim
A Bordeaux-inspired blend for everyday life that’s soft, lush and smooth but never sweet. Dangerously easy-drinking, this Merlot and Cabernet-based red wine offers balance, food-friendly structure and approachability. It’s crafted for everyday enjoyment in Sonoma Valley.

Vignetti Del Sole Pinot Grigio | Picked by Amy
A lighter-style Pinot Grigio with plenty of fruit and a nice crisp acidity. This popular Italian white has a nose of lemons, green apples and almonds. With no oak, the wine shows the best of the Pinot Grigio varietal flavors. Well-balanced with a fresh, clean finish.

July Staff Pick | The Seeker Sauvignon Blanc

This month’s staff pick has been chosen by Taylor Bremer, part of the 5th generation of Bremer’s to work at the store. 99.9% of the time Taylor chooses a wine because he is drawn to the label, and his pick, The Seeker Sauvignon Blanc, is no exception. Enjoying drawing himself, it is no surprise he is drawn to this illustration on the bottle. Beyond the look, he likes the taste even better!

“We sought our Sauvignon Blanc in not one but two of New Zealand’s best vineyard sites – Marlborough and Martinborough – for complexity and zest.

Aromas of zesty lime, grapefruit, and passionfruit with a touch of fresh green herbs. A refreshing and vibrant palate with core of sweet fruit leading to a long and juicy finish.” -The Seeker Wines
