Château Recougne Bordeaux Supérieur – 750 ML

WE 89

This well-known Bordeaux Superieur, which has a fabulous reputation for aging 20-30 years in certain vintages, comes from proprietor Xavier Milhad. The 2012, a blend of 78% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, has a dense ruby/plum color and attractive, juicy blackcurrant fruit. Supple, round and generous, this is an over-achiever and a sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 5-10 years, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts longer, given the fact that I’ve had the 1953 and 1955 in the last five years and both were still in great shape.

Tasting Notes

Marc Milhades meticulous attention to vineyard detail has clearly paid off here, as the 2018 Recougne Rouge showcases the richness of the vintage balanced by the energy and liveliness that can come only from healthy vines. The nose offers scents of mocha and toffee, while the palate bursts with fresh currant and blueberry flavors. The tannins are sweet and round, framed by a fresh minerality.

Wine Enthusiast

89 points || Dense tannins and ripe black fruits indicate the richness of this wine. The tannins are still young, giving the wine a dry feel at this stage. But generous fruits are there and will come through shortly. Drink from 2021. -ROGER VOSS
