Fred Cline learned a love for farming from his grandfather Valeriano Jacuzzi at their ranch in Oakley. This area in Contra Costa County was a center for immigrants who planted some of the original grapevines. Fred set about restoring dry-farmed, head-pruned vines with roots that run deep in sandy soils. These rare vines, some well over a 100 years old, form the backbone for our Ancient Vines collection.
Tasting Notes
For over 40 years Fred Cline has crafted wine from ancient vines grown in California's Contra Costa County. Fred developed his love for farming from his grandfather, who planed dry farmed vineyards in the county generations ago. In order to survive, the ancient vines pushed their roots deep into the sandy soil and reward us with a wine of intense depth, dark fruit flavor and a plush velvet finish.
