El Molino Pinot Noir – 750ML

WS 94

Tasting Notes

Pale ruby, turning amber at the rim. Really gorgeous aromatics of freshly baked cinnamon roll, sandalwood with a touch of fresh rosemary. On the palate, the wine delivers that really beautiful Pinot profile - all silk tannins and plush mouthfeel, woven like a light mesh around a core of ripe cherry and crushed raspberry. As the flavors develop towards the finish the wine turns more savory in nature and finishes with a lick of pepper and bitter chocolate. Immensely fresh and refreshing in nature, no Napa heat in evidence, the long finish continues to cleanse the tongue long after the swallow. 92 points." -Clare Tooley, MW

Vineyard & Varietal Information

The El Molino wines are produced from a very unique planting of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Rutherford, the heart of Cabernet country. But actually it's nothing new—the legendary vigneron André Tchelistcheff produced some famous Pinot Noirs from this same area all the way back in the 1940s. The vines are mature to downright old, with Pinot Noir planted back in 1990 and Chardonnay from 1978 and 1991! El Molino's focus is like a laser, concentrating on these two estate wines made and matured in the hillside caves dating back to 1897. Both wines are truly world-class and worthy of your attention. Wine Spectator

This sports some serious perfume, with red and black tea, savory and sassafras hints leading off, quickly followed by a racy set of damson plum, raspberry and red currant coulis flavors that extend through the lengthy, mineral-accented finish. There are savory sparkles throughout in the background, and the energy here is coiled and vibrant. (JM)
