Ruffino Modus – 750ML

WA 92
JS 94

The Super Tuscan Modus, the Latin word for ‘method’, is Ruffino’s contemporary way of expressing Tuscany with a blend of three noble grape varieties. First introduced in 1997, Modus routinely garners exceptional acclaim from the top wine critics worldwide. Sangiovese is the core of Modus, providing refined texture along with cherry and red berry aromas. The Merlot offers smoothness enriched by blackberry fruit and delicate notes of mint, while the Cabernet Sauvignon lends structure, and also unites all three grape types with its elegance. Modus’ label features a compass that artfully represents the meticulous balance of all the elements that come together to give this wine its distinctive character: vines, sun, fruit, soil, dedication and the passage of time.

Tasting Notes

Intense ruby red. Intense and intriguing with a complex bouquet of blackberries and established flowers that evolves into cinnamon and clove notes. A rich and enduring wine, with soft tannins and an impressive structure.

Winemaking Information

Blend: 39% Sangiovese, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot

Serving Suggestion

Modus is wonderful on its own, or serve it with bold dishes such as duck with olives and pancetta, beef-stuffed manicotti with Bolognese sauce, and aged cheeses including taleggio, pecorino and gouda.

Wine Advocate

92 Points || A blend of 44% Sangiovese, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the 2019 Modus is a very contemporary wine with soft extraction, lots of dark fruit and gentle tannins spread over a full-bodied style. You get sunshine and warm Tuscany in the glass, and although this blend of grapes tells you less about its territory, it gives you a generous glass to pair with grilled meats. Black cherry is followed by pencil shaving, sweet earth and barbecue spice. Only the 15% alcohol content is a little too much. Best After 2022.

James Suckling

94 Points || Aromas of crushed stones, dark berries and blueberries follow through to a medium to full body with creamy tannins and a medium-chewy finish. Chocolate at the end. Sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Two or three years of bottle age will bring this around nicely. Drink after 2024.
