Tonel 78 Malbec-Bonarda – 750ML

WA 93

Tasting Notes

Very intense red color, almost black. Very complex and intense aromas. Marked notes of red fruits and black olives, perfectly integrated with notes of spices and coffee from its maturation in barrels. Wine with great body and volume on the palate. Friendly tannins. Fresh, long.

Winemaking Information

Malbec grapes are sourced from the Flowers View Vineyard at 3200 feet with stony, well drained soils and Bonarda grapes are sourced from the Medrano Vineyard at 2200 feet with deep sandy loam. The grapes are vinified in concrete tanks separately. After a cold soak the grapes macerated for 20 days in temperature controlled conditions. Then the wines were transferred to French oak barrels and aged for 8 months. The barrels were then tasted and the best ones were selected for this 50/50 blend.

Wine Advocate

93 Points // The 2017 Tonel 78 Barrel Select isn't as closed as the 2016 I tasted last time. It is terribly balanced, very pure and integrated and more insinuating than in-your-face. This is a superb blend of Malbec and 35% Bonarda with lots of character and very good freshness. 25,000 bottles produced.
