Vineyard & Varietal Information

Winter was marked by higher than average seasonal temperatures as well as very low rainfall, thus encouraging a vine development that was 3 weeks in advance. The cold spell at the end of March did not affect the vineyard. The application of prepared cow horn manure (500P) promoted microbial activity, humus formation as well as water absorption and retention within the soil. Although the heavy rainfall in early May increased mildew pressure, tisane-based care (Bourdaine bark, wicker) made it possible to keep the plants in good health. Flowering began, in good conditions, from 15 May. Summer conditions were hot and dry. The application of yarrow and chamomile protected the vineyard from water stress. Stormy episodes around mid-August were salvaging, bringing humidity and freshness. Ripening was gradual and homogeneous up to harvest.

Wine Advocate

94 Points // The 2020 La Lagune has turned out beautifully, offering up aromas of cassis, dark berries, loamy soil and sweet spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety, layered palate that exhibits excellent depth and concentration structured around powdery tannins, concluding with a perfumed, violet-inflected finish. This is a strong effort and a worthy, somewhat more muscular follow-up to the sensual, charming 2019. Best after 2025.

Wine Enthusiast

95 Points // A generous, richly textured wine, this has density as well as layers of black currant fruits. Its power does not detract from its style and swagger—a wine that will develop well. Barrel Sample: 93-95

James Suckling

94 Points // A firm, polished red with tight, focused tannins that flow across the palate. It’s medium-to full-bodied with good length and a gorgeous finish. From organically grown grapes. Barrel Sample: 93-94
